UC Market Trends to watch in 2015:
image_header_580x210
Researchers at Ovum are out with key unified-communications (UC) trends to watch in 2015 – all of which are expected to have a large impact on businesses in the coming year.
First, the market for UC solutions is – and will remain – diverse, despite consolidation, Ovum says. When enterprises expand or replace their existing business communications solutions, they will nearly always consider consolidation; at the same time, the market is large and diverse.
Next, hosted UC services are becoming mainstream, according to Ovum’s survey, particularly among large enterprises. Curiosity has turned into investment; this will create more market opportunity for hosted communications but will potentially complicate deployment and management.
Finally, video conferencing has become ubiquitous and hosted video conferencing is undergoing a transformation as providers introduce new services and revamp existing ones. End users are more familiar with video-conferencing software than ever before, and are demanding access to it; however, the sheer number of systems is making interoperability a significant challenge. So, operators are revamping their services and new providers are aiming to differentiate themselves all in the name of widespread video-conferencing access.
“Enterprises considering UC solutions in 2015 will encounter a market undergoing considerable change. Video will become ubiquitous as consumerization, WebRTC, and other factors make videoconferencing available from any application and any device. Meanwhile UC services will become better enabled to support complex hybrid cloud deployment models,” said Brian Riggs, principal analyst of enterprise services at Ovum.

SDN to be a top trend in 2015, research suggests:
image_header_580x210
The majority of EMEA channel partners and system integrators believe that Software-Defined Networking (SDN) will be of paramount importance over the coming two years, a new survey has revealed.
Brocade surveyed over 230 distributors, resellers and customers from across EMEA and found that 54% believed SDN and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) would play an increasingly key role in enterprise infrastructure over the coming years.
While only 18% of those surveyed already had live deployments of SDN and NFV, 62% were either currently evaluating solutions or had the intention of doing so over the coming year.
Asked about challenges on the horizon, 46% of customers cited both complexity and bandwidth provisioning as the biggest hurdles to overcome.
When it came to choosing a vendor, 67% of partners said that technology differentiation was a critical factor, while 42% believed that a vendor’s vision and strategy were also key.
“It is clear from this research that our channel partners are looking to the future and are focusing on building the technology solutions that their customers will need in the years to come, in particular SDN and NFV,” said Marcus Jewell, vice president, EMEA, Brocade.
“With customers prioritizing virtualization and BYOD, it’s only natural that complexity and bandwidth are their top challenges. These findings support what we are seeing within our channel programs,” he added.
